Why Acupuncture?

Treatment tailored to you

Traditional acupuncture's greatest strength is that it treats the individual. Because traditional acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a range of conditions.  As a result of our environment and lifestyle our energy can be disturbed, blocked or depleted resulting in symptoms of pain, illness or disease. Acupuncture focuses on the factors that contribute to pain and illness, not just the presenting symptoms.

A Growing Body of Research

Research into acupuncture has grown at twice the rate of research into conventional biomedicine over the past 20 years. A wide variety of clinical areas have been studied, including pain, pregnancy, fertility and inflammation. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture for the management of chronic pain and chronic tension type headaches & migraines.

Acupuncture is often used for many other complaints including knee pain, back pain, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal injuries, digestive issues, autoimmune disorders, menopause, painful periods and anxiety.

A Safe Treatment

You can have acupuncture as a standalone treatment or alongside other conventional medical treatment. It is safe to use whilst taking medication and can enhance the effects and help deal with side effects. When carried out by a qualified practitioner acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments in the UK and has virtually no unpleasant side effects. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages.

For further information on the effectiveness of acupuncture for specific conditions please refer to individual factsheets published by the British Acupuncture Council.

Victoria Quinan

BSc (Hons) LicAc MBAcC

Victoria graduated in 2013 with a First Class Honours degree in acupuncture from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (affiliated with Kingston University)  where she studied two different styles: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Element acupuncture. A significant part of Victoria's degree course was the study of biomedical sciences, this has given her an understanding of Western medical diagnosis and their interpretation from a Chinese Medicine perspective. She also has a degree in Anatomy & Cell Biology which has proven invaluable in her practice as an acupuncturist, especially in treating musculoskeletal complaints. Women's health is a particular interest for Victoria having experienced the effectiveness of acupuncture first hand. Along with many other  postgraduate courses in obstetrics, gynaecology and fertility, Victoria has completed an  Advanced Level Diploma in Fertility Acupuncture to further develop her expertise in supporting women and their partners in all aspects of their fertility. Her approach integrates Western biomedical testing with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Victoria treats from her private clinic in Wantage, Oxfordshire and is ideally located for Didcot, Faringdon, Abingdon and the surrounding villages.
